Costa Rica A Birding the tropics starter kit

Costa Rica is one of the most popular tropical countries for ecotourism, and for good reason. With incredible birding and abundant wildlife, along with fantastic ecolodges and delicious food, it's the sort of place that a birder can return to time and again and continue to see new things and have new experiences.

This trip is designed to sample a diversity of Costa Rican habitats—from the Central highlands around the capital, to the Caribbean lowland rainforest, back up to the Pacific Slope montane cloud forest, and finally dropping down into the Pacific Coast lowlands. We should see an impressive assortment of tropical birds: antbirds and manakins and motmots and in the lowlands, highland specialists like Resplendent Quetzal, Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher, endemic warblers, and a variety of tanagers, trogons, hummingbirds, and parrots everywhere (and even both Scarletand Great Green Macaws). Wintering migrants will also still be around, so we’ll get to see familiar warblers, vireos, and orioles before they visit us again in the US come spring.

Itineraries will be updated with plenty of time before the next departure. Our itineraries usually show minimal changes between years, but some substantive updates can occur as birding access and information evolves. For any specific questions regarding these trips, please contact us.
