Trinidad & TObago: Neotropics, meet the Caribbean
There is no better introduction to the neotropics than Trinidad & Tobago! Located only seven miles off the coast of Venezuela, Trinidad has easy access to a wide variety of habitats and shares much of its avifauna with the mainland, with most tropical bird families represented. We will be on the lookout for manakins, toucans, woodcreepers, and more, but without being overwhelmed. The birdlife of the smaller island of Tobago is more closely aligned with the Caribbean. Both islands have large tracts of untouched forests along with stunning coastlines.
On this classic 10-day tour, we will seek out some of the birds that make these islands a must-stop for birders, while spending a large amount of our time at the world-famous Asa Wright Nature Centre. Some highlights of this tour include mangrove boat trip to Caroni Swamp to find Scarlet Ibis, visiting caves to see the enigmatic Oilbird, and making a dedicated trip to find the critically endangered Trinidad Piping Guan.
Itineraries will be updated with plenty of time before the next departure. Our itineraries usually show minimal changes between years, but some substantive updates can occur as birding access and information evolves. For any specific questions regarding these trips, please contact us.
